Cohan Sujay Carlos is the CEO of Mechanical Chef, a company that has developed and patented a cooking robot capable of cooking all kinds of Indian foods in a completely automated manner. The prototype of their cooking robot became the first machine to automatically cook Indian dishes, and it was demonstrated in public for the first time in 2017. Cohan's team built the prototype with a grant from the Department of Science and Technology (through IIT-Bombay) in 2017. Prior to his work at Mechanical Chef, Cohan was the CEO and Deep Learning Consultant at Aiaioo Labs, a research lab that focuses on natural language processing and machine learning. During his time at Aiaioo Labs, Cohan worked on deep learning algorithms and developed a curriculum for teaching deep learning through a series of coding exercises. He also contributed to open source by donating a machine learning algorithm to Apache OpenNLP and developing a framework for Arduino programming in Kannada, Hindi, and Tamil. Cohan has also worked as a Research Intern at Microsoft, where he worked on natural language processing technologies for under-resourced languages, resulting in a publication in EACL 2009: 'Large Coverage Root Lexicon Extraction for Hindi'. Cohan's education history includes a PhD in Natural Language Understanding from North Carolina State University (which he dropped out of in 2009), an MS in Computer Science from North Carolina State University, and a BE in Electronics from Bangalore University. He also has a Diplome Superieure in French from Alliance Francaise and completed his high school education at Bishop Cottons. Cohan's tech stack includes expertise in Deep Learning, Research Scientist, Naive Bayes, ML, Sentiment Analysis, and NLP.
